I'm Gunnar, an analytics engineer...

… with diverse experience and interests.

  • I worked as a researcher and educator in academia for a long time, focusing on international business and research methods.
  • My favorite hobby is playing electric guitar and recording in DAWs - plus listening to music - especially guitar-driven metal - of course.
  • When I have some free time, I also enjoy reading about psychology by people such as McWilliams, Fonagy, Kernberg, Yalom and others (I like theory).
  • I also just like to create things, like this blog :)

My interest in technology started at a young age and continued with Microsoft Flight Simulator 98, building PCs and playing around with websites (learned minimal HTML by trial and error).

Now I go full circle. Microsoft’s Flight Simulator gives way to Microsoft Fabric. Instead of PCs, I build pipelines. And, as you can see, I’m again playing around with websites (skills still minimal but now I have AI).

After discovering my passion for data and methods in academia, I pivoted career to embrace this facet more fully. I’m now working at a Microsoft-partnered data and AI consultancy in Hamburg. This blog is part of my learning journey towards designing accessible data solutions that promote clarity. It is a personal blog; opinions are mine.

I share this for the fun of creating it. While I’m not an expert in everything, I believe in the virtue of sharing your perspective so others can take what is useful and critically reject what is not - see this this and this as foundations of my personal knowledge philosophy. And if there is no new post in a while - I’m probably fine, doing things.
